LITS staff are now ready to support macOS Big Sur and are asking all faculty and staff to upgrade their college-owned Macs at their earliest convenience. You can upgrade at any time by following our upgrade guide or by using the Upgrade to macOS Big Sur option in the LITS Self Service app.
The upgrade will take about an hour to complete and will not remove any data or applications. Before upgrading, please check that:
- Your Mac has at least 40 GB of free disk space.
- Your computer is connected to the internet and its power adapter.
- You have backed up critical data (data will not be deleted but we recommend backing up important data regularly - Google Drive is great for this!)
Your Mac will automatically prompt you to upgrade once per day starting next Monday, and will allow you to defer the update for up to 14 days. After 14 days, the upgrade will begin automatically. We recommend upgrading at the end of your work day or on a weekend to prevent any disruption to your work.
Please see our upgrade guide for more information or reach out to LITS Support if you have any questions.
