On Monday, May 16th 2022, Beloit College will begin the process of “federating” Apple IDs created with beloit.edu email addresses. This will allow LITS to better manage, secure, and support campus-owned Apple devices. To do this, the college will need to reclaim ownership of beloit.edu email addresses that were previously used to create personal Apple IDs. If you have not created a personal Apple ID using your beloit.edu email address, this will not impact you.
If you have created an Apple ID using your Beloit College email address, you will receive frequent email and device notifications from Apple beginning May 16th prompting you to update your Apple ID email address. Please follow the instructions provided in these notifications to update your Apple ID email address.
Updating the email address for your Apple ID only changes the email address you use when you sign in to your Apple ID. The data and purchases associated with your account remain with your account and aren't affected. The password for your Apple ID won’t change, unless you decide to change it.
The process of reclaiming email addresses will take 60 days to complete in order to provide time for you to be notified of this change and to update your Apple ID email address. If you don't update your Apple ID within the requested time period of the first notification from Apple, your Apple ID will change to a temporary username that includes @temporary.appleid.com. For example, doej@beloit.edu changes to doej-beloit.edu@temporary.appleid.com.
